This painting was nearing completion and sat on the easel in my newly acquired studio in the River Art's District (Asheville, NC). On Sept 27th, Hurricane Helene's surge swept a river of flood waters over 25 ft, submerging the gallery spaces of the Art Garden and raging through the second floor, where my studio was. I believed this painting to be gone. When the flood receded and we picked our way into the top floors of the building, I was surprised and grateful to find this piece had survived, though damaged and muddy.
